안녕하세요!!!! That means hello btw. I have been very busy settling in to my new home in Daejeon. But I finally have made time to write! So... details, details, details:
Where do I live? A nice little studio apartment in Dunsan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, South Korea
Where do I work? A fairly large Elementary school that is about 20 minutes walking distance from my apartment.
What classes do I teach? I teach 3rd, 4th, 5th,and 6th grade Conversational English (about 5-7 classes in each grade and 25-30 students in each class)
How many co-teachers? I have 3 wonderful Co-teachers! (A photo with Ms. Sara is soon to come!)
This is Ms. Nam
This is Miss Juyoung!
What have I been eating? Well, I have not been starving! I am still trying
to get in the routine of eating a little breakfast before leaving in the morn, but I always eat school lunch. It is pretty standard everyday: rice, soup, kimchi, 2 other side dishes and a cup of warm water lol. My co-teacher told the Lunchroom that I do not eat pork so when ever there is a dish with pork, I get a couple of packs of dried seaweed instead lol. Dried seaweed has actually become one of my favorite snacks! For dinner... it really depends. I don't eat out as often as one would think but I don't cook that much yet. I do plan on making burgers one night though! I will start taking more pictures of what I eat!
Some Good Bibimbap I had with Ms. Nam and her husband.
Waffles with Miss Juyoung!
New Favorite snack: Seaweed!
What do I do for fun? I am ashamed to say it, but right now I am such a boring person. Until I get more comfortable with the city and get more friends, I will be In my apartment watching movies on Youtube lol. But every now and then, I will have dinner with a fellow Epik teacher and for the past 2 Saturdays there have been welcoming parties for the new teachers. They are so much fun!! I tell you what, the Korean nightlife is pretty awesome, I gotta get my weight up if I want to hang all night with them!
Party Party Party!
Am I homesick? Yes and No. When I am busy at school or out somewhere I am not very homesick. I am simply living living. I actually feel homesick when I do the things that are supposed to keep me from getting homesick, like looking on Facebook, watching certain movies, or listening to certain songs. I get the most homesick when I talk to my family and friends. So I try not to think about the distance between us. I chose this life so I'm dealing with it. My co-teacher, Ms. Nam is really helping. She is like my Korean Mom! She invites me to dinner at her place with her family and to go on little outings. She is so kind.
Are there anythings that are hard for me to get used to? HECK YES!!! Well, they aren't extremely hard but somethings are just very different. I will have to save this topic for another post though!
Feel feel to ask me any questions!! I will do my best to answer them!
Hey Boat! I'm glad you're adjusting well. I'm sure you'll have a great time over there!
